Mystery Stitch Pictures

Ok, finally, as promised ... pictures of my mystery stitch! Remember, I was trying to double knit the HOOVER blanket from the knitty site. Instead, I have NOT double knit, but done something really strange. Someone's gonna post a comment and say, "ah, that's the moss stitch" or something. I know it's not moss, but what I don't know is exactly what stitch it really is, I just know what it isn't.

Extreme Close Up

Better shot of the colors

There it is, but what is it?

It's the same on both sides

Ah well, mistake it might be ... BUT I LIKE IT!

Some things are hard to do

Little story:

My good friends have a new baby. When they were trying to decorate the nursery, they attempted to put a crucifix on the wall. This crucifix was given to the father by his mother when he himself was a child.

Unfortunately, Christ had lost a nail from one of his hands and was loose. They didn't want to put it up on the wall, not wanting certain pieces to, well, fall.

The husband told the wife that it was no big deal, just put the little nail back into Christ's hand. She stopped and stared at him. Then said quietly, "I don't think I can do that." He looked at her, then at the crucifix, then back up at her. He then said, "I don't think I can do it either."

Solution? The crucifix is on a table and a new one is on the wall.

My first reaction when I heard her tell me this was that it was a fixable problem, the second reaction was ... "I'm not doing it!".

I told this story at work and 9 of 10 people said that they couldn't put a nail back into Christ's hand either. One person said they'd have no problem with it, just bring it to her. I blinked and told her, "No offense, but it would almost be worse having someone who didn't care do it than do it myself."

It's just "one of those things."

Unlikely Pair

Okay. I had my first date through e-harmony. Not love at first sight, but a possible friend and then who knows? Probably not my "mate", but hey, it's a start right?

Project Runway - Unlikely pair - Laura and Michael. Love 'em! Love them both. I know most of the guys on the show have shown a hatred for Laura, and I don't care. Michael is the coolest guy up there and he and Laura get along fine. Michael even won the last two challenges! Now, the Pam Grier outfit he designed really, really looked great. The 'garbage' outfit made from recyclable materials was very nice, but I also actually liked Jeffrey's - although I don't care for him himself. And I've pretty much loved everything Laura has done, although I know why she hasn't won a challenge. She's got good taste. If I wanted something designed, I'd call her. It's all chic and wonderful and wearable - although I'm not the same body style that the models are, but I'd still call her. Or Michael. Robert is still loved, but he's riding that edge of boring. Kayne, well ... I like him. I really like him, but he can go over the top. Sorry to see Alison go, it should have been Angela or Vincent. Don't get me wrong, Angela has grown on me - and I did love the Audrey Hepburn dress and the INC outfit. But the 'garbage' outfit was ... garbage. Yet Vincent's was worse.

That's all I have time for now, more later!

Paper Clips

I cried last night. Of course, it was because I watched a very moving documentary called PAPER CLIPS.

It's about a small town in Tennessee trying to teach middle school children about diversity, tolerance, and the tolls of intolerance and hatred. They chose to teach about the holocaust. In the teaching of this course, one child mentioned that he could not fathom 6 million jewish deaths. "What's 6 million?" How do you visualize 6 million?

So the school started a project, to collect 6 million paper clips. Something I did not know is that a paper clip has meaning. It was designed by a Norwegian and was used by the Norwegians during the war as a symbol of some sort.

By the time the project was over, they had collected nearly 29 million paper clips. People from all over the world would send them. Some sent one for each person in their family that they lost. Some sent one, with a note, while others sent boxes. A school class in Germany sent one a piece each with a note of apology (in German) to Anne Frank.

I won't go into detail, but the final memorial that they found and refurbished and is now at home in Tennessee is indeed inspiring. A true piece of history turned from sadness into a memorial.

This is a truly surprising, bright, discovery filled, sad and delightful piece.

Yours,
Lola

Mystery Stitch

Well, see ... I was trying to knit the "Hoover" blanket from the knitty website. The pattern wasn't working out for me, couldn't get the hang of double knitting. So I called my wiser and more experienced (knitting) friend and mentor, Mary. Over the phone she gave me directions on how she double knits.

Welllll...... See now, I started knitting this blanket and I really, really liked how it was looking, but it just didn't look Right. It's a beautiful blanket, pictures to come I promise, but it ... well, truthfully, it's not double knitting.

I don't know what the stitch is or how it came about, it just is rather organic in it's mistaken nature. Mary saw it for the first time tonight. She told me it was lovely, but all wrong to be double knitted. She refuses to show me how to double knit properly until I finish this blanket, so as not to screw up this rather pretty mistake. If this stitch is out there and known to someone, I have NO clue. Usually my mistakes are frog-worthy only.

We'll see what happens,
God Bless

Needs Charging

Not me, my phone.

Today I have spoken with my sister-in-law for an hour, then later with my brother for an hour and change, and then I just got off the phone with my sister after speaking with her for over an hour. And Suzanne and I would have kept talking for-evah if I hadn't pulled the plug. I do have to go to bed now, since work days start early.

Good news is, everyone is doing well. Now I want to catch up with my other two brothers, but neither my phone nor I can do it tonight! Maybe tomorrow.

All is well here. I'm disappointed about the show, but it's all good. Oh, and I watched Hugh Jackman in OKLAHOMA! tonight and I really do recommend this piece. Very, very nice. Then again people ... it's Hugh Jackman! C'mon!

Love and God Bless,

I've feel Auf'ed

The title is a reference to PROJECT RUNWAY 3 by the way. Which I love. Glad Keith is gone and not someone else, glad to see Bonnie go too. Way weirded out by how much I actually LIKE Angela's piece this time around. Still love Laura and Michael.

Just got the cast list for PROPOSALS. No, I didn't make it. Some nice people, and good friends did. Again. I know I can't take this personally. I thought I had a nice strong audition. I really, really did. I love Anna, and she'll be good, she really will. But ... there's still this small part of me, that feels so ... small right now.

I'll write more later, can't now.
