The Lime and the Coconut ....

That jingle keeps going and going and going ... can't get it out of my head. *sigh* It is fun though.

Grandmother is not doing so well, now her kidneys are failing. Obviously this is not good news. I'm so glad that I recently got to visit her. Is it selfish to pray to keep loved ones around when (she's 94) they suffer? She's not really suffering per se, at least not that she'll admit. She's slowed down a lot and I know that it bothers her. Okay, I'm rambling, but she means a lot to me. With the death this morning of Terri Schiavo and the Pope receiving Last Rites, it's kind of a morbid day. The rain doesn't help much either.

I'm not depressed.

Just thought I'd get that out there. I'm not in a depressive state, more of a morbidly contemplative state. Life is followed by death. Natural order. Faith transends death (don't comment, I don't have to prove it ... that's why it's called Faith). Love is eternal.

'nuff for now.

God Bless and keep you all. (The Lime and the Coconut, drink them both together ...)

TRAPPED!

I'm just sitting there minding my own business. At the library of all friggin' places ... WHEN ....

I was tapped on the shoulder by someone I truly do recognize, but without knowing who exactly it is, or his name. Of course he doesn't do anything except ask me "You do recognize me, right?" I tell him, yes ....

Then he has the ever-lovin' gall to ask, "Well then, who am I?" F**k a duck!

He has to tell me, which makes me feel guilty for not recognizing him right away. But added to that is that he is the manager of the gym where I used to go to work out. Double guilt on a stick! Not only do I not recall where I know him from, but he makes me feel guilty for not working out ... not to mention TOTAL GUILT for the Easter sweets I ate today (and the piece of a friend's birthday cake).

*sigh*

Deverry Rumblings

Hey all! I'm back from visiting my grandmother in Texas, hopefully sometime in the near future there may be pictures. She's too thin, but doing well and remains quite fiesty (thank God!). Unknown to me, my cousin Trish flew in the same day I did. Then my brother drove up (down? across) from Austin on Saturday for the weekend. Then my sister Suzanne and her friend Corey came on Sunday. In between my uncle and aunt, Jimmy and Margie, were in and out. What a visit! Loved catching up with everyone and my grandmother frankly loved it all. She'll be 95 in May. Now my only concern is what to get a woman who says she doesn't want anything? For Christmas I sent her a poinsettia arrangement that she loved, and I mean LOVED. But I hate repeating myself. Any creative ideas, please send them my way!

American Idol: Carrie and Nadia - scary hair ladies. Constantine - poodle in a leather jacket ... YES! Hah! Jessica - you ROCK! Bo - ah man, I loved you as always.

Alrighty. BOOK CORNER:

I am reading Katherine Kerr's excellent Deverry series. Unfortunatly, I read a later book first - THE RED WYVERN. I was a bit lost, but ended up hooked. So I went and got the first book listed for the series on the inside cover. BUT IT'S NOT THE FIRST BOOK IN THE SERIES???? Darn publishers!!!!! Why list a book first when it's not the first book???? It wasn't even an alphabetical listing????? Dratted publlishing peoples. So now I have to try and figure out which of the many books listed actually came first. I see some internet research coming my way.

Uhm, now that I rumbled can I just add .... This series is GOOD. The going back and forth in time is confusing if you start at the end, like me, but it is addictive.

Next on my reading list: A CLASH OF THRONES series by George R.R. Martin (as recommended highly by my gamer geek brother). Don't get mad David, I'm a gamer geek too!

Then on to Raymond Feist's new one: THE EXILE'S RETURN.

BLOG-A-THON interview:

So far only my friend Mary at sculptedyarnshas signed up to interview. Don't let this stop you! If you'd like to be interviewed just post me a comment saying "interview me" (see yesterday's post for more information).

Mary, here are your 5 questions:

1. What theatre role would you most like to play?
2. If there was a catastrophe and you could only save 5 items from your VAST music collection, what would they be?
3. What would be your "dream" job?
4. Where in the world would you MOST like to visit?
5. What celebrity would you MOST like to interview (living or deceased)?

Have fun and God Bless!

The Traveller Returns ... to be Interviewed!

Here's the deal, I'm involved in a blog-a-thon! I meant to answer these questions from Suzie before going to Texas, but life sometimes conspires against the best of plans and intentions. But I'm back and here are my answers, at the bottom are some instructions on getting in on this Blog-A-Thon!

Questions from Suzie:

1. What was the first play you were in?
Oh! A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away .... Springfield Little Theatre (Springfield, MO). The first play I was involved with was ALICE IN WONDERLAND. I ran props for that show, and was hooked on theatre ever since. First professional production I saw was a tour of THE FANTASTICS. Now, on to answer the actual question - first play I was ever IN .... I don't remember the name. It was "In the time of ...." something or other. It was also in Springfield, MO with the Stained Glass Players, a Christian theatre company. I was with them over several years and many different plays. Most recently I played Paulette in NO, NO, NANETTE and I'm getting ready to play Viney in THE MIRACLE WORKER.

2. When I walk into a yarn store, I head straight for the....
The sale section. I'm too poor to be a true yarn snob. Then I look around like I'm lost and eventually head over to something soft and colorful that may have caught my eye.

3. I am most like (Fill-in-the-blank) from Project Runway!
Alas, I am probably most like Robert. He was never one of my favorites, but he has a sense of style that sometimes is totally ON and sometimes is WAAAY OFF. I'd like to be more like Kara Saun, always stunning.

4. What do you want to do when you grow up?
Hey, I'll be 39 in a few months ... I have PLENTY of time to grow up. I'm also a card-carrying member of the Neverland Club, we never want to grow up completely! Seriously, things I'd still like to "do" include possibly getting my Masters, becoming a writer, or just being a better me.

5. What are your top 10 reality shows?
TRICK QUESTION! I don't have ten I even like!

Love:
1. Project Runway (fun and creative)
2. American Idol
3. Survivor (most seasons anyway, but not all)

Hate: Anything Bachelor/Bachelorette, anything with cosmetic surgery, Big Brother, and all their spin-offs. I used to enjoy The Amazing Race, but not these last two seasons.

So to get a top ten, I have to delve into quasi-reality t.v. shows:
4. Iron Chef (Japan, not American so much)
5. Extreme Home Makeover (Love Paul)
6. Discovery and History Channel programming

Then into fiction:
7. InuYasha (Anime)
8. Yu Yu Hakusho (Anime)
9. House
10. Numbers

***********************

Here are the rules for this Blog-a-thon. I'll offer to interview the next how many ever people to respond to this post that will follow these rules:
1. Leave me a comment saying "interview me."

2. I will respond by asking you five questions here. They will be different questions than the ones below.

3. You will update YOUR blog with the answers to the questions.

4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.

5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

That's it... and be sure to send me your email address so I can let you know when to come back here for your questions!

Welcome Harper Lee (Ann)!!!

Shelby had her baby! Shelby had her baby! They were going to induce her on Tuesday, but she went into labour late Saturday (early Sunday). Twelve hours of labour, but she was able to get the epidural.

Like me, Shelby is fairly literate. We read a lot, but we don't get all high and mighty about reading only "the classics". I love a good, hot, vampire romance novel. (Yea! Feehan, Kenyon, Harris, Bishop, and of course ... Hamilton). But we both think that "To Kill a Mockingbird" is a great book. She wanted to name her daughter, Harper. Well, her in-laws (including her husband who is otherwise a bright guy) think that LeeAnn is a perfect middle name. Her hubby's name is Lee, there are other Lee's in the family and I think mother or grandmother (his side) is a LeeAnn. So all the in-laws decide that Harper LeeAnn is a beautiful name.

When Shelby told me the baby's name-to-be, I heard "Lee" instead of "LeeAnn". Harper Lee (author of above-mentioned classic novel) is a well known name. BUT! Apparently, no one on his side of the family knew who it was????!!!!!

So baby Harper LeeAnn is new to this world and with a true Southern name. Shelby and I just laugh and shake our heads in wonder. The important thing is that everyone is healthy and doing well.

Welcome baby Harper! And be glad you weren't a boy ... Daddy wanted to name you Carter Finley. The same name as the NC State Wolfpack's stadium. In fact, in his most secret of hearts, your name might actually be Carter .....

If it's row 5 it's knit 1, purl 3

I am almost done. With what would be the obvious question, so I'll answer it. I found a pattern called "Wavy" on www.knitty.com and I loved the look of it. I made the scarf and gave to a co-worker for her birthday. But then came the question of the next project. I really, really, don't like repeating projects, but I did love "Wavy". I also have 7 friends (go forth and be fruitful) pregnant. Shelby is due, well today basically. They'll induce Tuesday if nothing happens. But that's off the subject, kinda. Stephanie is a good friend and co-worker and I'm making a baby blanket ... in "Wavy". I just multiplied the scarf pattern by four. I am 16 rows from binding off. This is where I wished I had a digital camera to post a picture of it. I love it. I'd do another, but by now (the equivilant of 5 "Wavy" scarves) .... I no longer have any desire to knit this pattern, even if it is lovely.

I'm also getting ready to leave on Wednesday evening. So I have to come up with a new project quickly. One I can take on my trip. Airline security - got some info from www.knitty.com, a great resourse on what I might be able to take or not. It seems it's all basically up to the screeners discretion although knitting needles (bamboo or plastic only) are NOT banned. So I won't know until I get there. The new project needs to be simple, but not boring, and travel easily. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! Just remember, I do still have 7 pregnant friends, soon to be six (but then Tammie might be trying soon so it could go back up to 7).

Booties. I'd love to make some booties, but the idea scares me.

Well, back to work y'all!

God Bless and have a great day.

Weekend Workings

I have to work this weekend! In fact, I'm taking a few moments while at work to jot down this entry. Sucks. I work all the way through until Wednesday, leave Thursday for Houston and return late Monday. At least I have Tuesday off and then back to work.

**Anyone else feel that they need a vacation following a vacation????**

Although, this is technically not a vacation. It's a trip to visit my ailing grandmother. She's not doing well at all. However, she is 94 and in reasonably good health except her heart is giving out. She still lives in her own home and her mind is still sharp. As a descendent of her genes, not so bad a thing.

I'm hungry. All I have at the office is .... (yuck) .... oatmeal. Oh well, it's not so bad with some Splenda and cinnamon.

American Idol update: Amanda and Janay are gone. YES! Travis is gone! Wooo! Nikko is gone???? BAD voters, very bad! When he sang the song "Georgia On My Mind" it was wonderful. Now, that doesn't mean I wanted Scott to leave. In fact, I wish there had been a way to get rid of three girls instead of two so we could keep Nikko. That would have been cool.

Survivor: Best Season in a while! Thought Angie would be gone quick, which would have been a shame. But has she not proven herself a force to be reckoned with on the challenges? She and Stephanie both? Could not be happier to oust Kim and Jeff. Liking Bobby Jon a lot. Cute and with that indefinable something I just like. But I'm still glad the other team has won all the immunity challenges. Now, if only BJ, Angie and Stephanie could somehow join the other team. Coolness.

Fruits Basket: Only a few more episodes left to watch. I can't wait and I'm also hesitant. I don't want it to end! Please, please ... be like Doritoes ... make MORE!

Mary and Robert called last night and spontaneous was the name of the game! Out to dinner we went, and it was so much fun. Then we went back to their house and watched a movie called "Waiting for Guffman". Okay, I'm sure I spelled Guffman wrong, but you get the idea of the title. Extremely funny film. Parker Posey, Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy were all so funny. Well, so was the rest of the cast but those are the names I remember.

Any way, back to work. Gotta run!
God Bless

Shout out to DAVID!

Hi David! *waving*

To those outside the know, that is my brother (pointing over to Texas at my baby brother). Hmmm, can a brother still be called a baby at 34? YES! Yes I say!

OOOO! Great weekend y'all! Went to Raleigh Saturday with Robert, Mary, and Beep. Beep stands for B.P. which in turn stands for Butterfly Princess which in turn stands for my friend Shannon. I won't explain this unless asked.

We all went shopping! Robert and Beep headed over to a music place and Mary and I lost ourselves in the yarn store. There was a big sale and we were petting yarns, discussing felting and colors and types of needles. I ended up with 4 skeins of 100% wool of two different colors for felting, with a 5th skein of contrasting color for accent. Then I got a beautiful green in Cascade 220 (100% wool as well) with a really gorgeous varigated color that matches. These are all for felted bag projects, possibly the French Market Bag as seen at www.knitty.com in the archived patterns section. I then got some wool blend in some gold, brown, and tan colors for a project, at 1$ a skein, why not. I don't know what I'll use it in yet, but when I see the right pattern I'll be ready. Also found a gauge and size checker, 9" bamboo needles with extended cords (not circular), and size Zero addi turbos. Okay, okay. I'm not sure why or what for that I bought the **(*&)*^ size Zeros, but something will turn up!

Then we went to World Market, Borders, and Barnes and Noble. Love friends who enjoy bookstores as much as I do. Then we all went to eat at the Macaroni Grill. Fun fun!

Yesterday, I broke open a DVD set I bought on a whim. It was recommended by my friend Nate through my friend April. FRUIT BASKET. Japanese Anime. I was unsure, but willing to try. I started it last night and I laughed so friggin' hard! Love it! Simply love it. Recommend it to anyone so far. It's not a fighting or hard-science anime, no robots or space ships or pirates (for that I'd recommend OUTLAW STAR).

Oh. I did get a part in our community theatre producation of "The Miracle Worker". In my first show here I played a maid in "Angel Street", the play that the Oscar winning GASLIGHT was based on. Fun hussy role. Then in "No, No, Nanette" I played the maid Pauline. Extremely fun role that won Ruby Keeler a Tony in the 70's, very fun part. Well, guess what? I'm the maid again. This is a much smaller role, but who cares really? I got cast! The maid in the script is African American (or black, not sure what is currently correct). But no one auditioned that fit that part. The director asked around, but got no takers. I'm not sure what we're doing with the part. Instead of a freed slave, maybe a confederate widow? Not sure.

Anyway, God bless you all and have a great day!

Over the River and Through the Woods...

"To Grandmother's house we go ..."

I just booked tickets to Houston, TX to visit Genie. Genie is my grandmother. She is 94 years old and has spoiled me rotten. She recently had two small heart attacks and now has congestive heart failure. I just learned yesterday that her blood pressure keeps bottoming out and she's even fallen. She has a daily nurse come by. I really can't afford two trips. So, I'm planning on visiting HER and then if there is a funeral in the near future I will attend if I can. I'd rather see her alive than go to a funeral anyway. This doesn't make me a bad person, but she would appreciate seeing me more now than looking down on me dressed in black.

Anyway, lots going on. Find out about "The Miracle Worker" casting today at five. Sigh. We'll see. I think my audition went really well. I also think Marcia, Shannon and Meghan's auditions went really well too.

I'm not really in the mood to be light and frothy and entertaining, so I'll call it a day.

God bless.
